What exactly am I selling?
You are selling a pest control service contract. The customer signs up to have their home sprayed every other month by a service technician who will come to their house and spray inside and outside for ants, spiders, fleas, cockroaches, wasps, silverfish, earwigs, and other pests including treatments for rats and mice. The service has a satisfaction guarantee as well as unlimited free re-services if the customer has additional problems between the regular visits. Terminix is one of the companies that we sell for.
What kind of work hours does it require?
Here is your typical daily work schedule.
| 10:00 am | Correlation — Meet at the Sales Office |
| 11:30 — 4:00 | Knocking Doors — 4.5 hours |
| 4:00 — 5:00 | Quick meal break |
| 5:00 — until Dark | In your area knocking door — approximately 4 hours |
| 11:30 — 4:00 | Back at sales office turning in paperwork |
Total work day from 10am - 10pm at night. Active Door knocking hours 8+ hours a day. Mentally commit to be working from 10 am until 10 pm — you will have meetings, drive time, and a meal break during this time. We expect our reps to put in a minimum of 7 hours of actual door knocking time each day.
Where will I live?
We rent 2 or 3 bedroom units in apartment complexes. You will be rooming with 4-6 other sales reps in an apartment. If you are a married rep and don’t want to live with 3-5 other reps (don’t blame you if you don’t) then you will need to secure your own housing based on your individual needs. You can still however, qualify for the Housing Bonus.
Housing Reimbursement Bonus
If you put in 7 hours knocking on the doors every day each pay period, you will receive the Rent Bonus. This bonus is Free Rent or a Reimbursement of up to $350 a month if you are married and living in individual housing.
You must work every day 7 hours on the doors Monday through Saturday. If you miss a day you will not earn the Housing Bonus for that pay period. $175 will be deducted from your monthly commission payment to cover the housing expenses for that pay period. The Housing Bonus Qualification starts over every pay period.
Will I be working all alone, or with other people?
When you are knocking on doors you will be by yourself at the person’s home. You will normally be working with someone else who is knocking in your assigned area. This other person is either knocking on the same street as you or at least in the same neighborhood. You will normally drive out to the same area together. When you meet in the morning and back at night you are meeting as a group. Normally a group of 8-14 people are assigned to a large metro-area. All sales reps work under a Sales Leader.
How much money can you really make, what is the catch?
As in all commission sales jobs there is no limit to what you can make. There is no guaranteed minimum. We have been doing this for 15 years and the lowest amount a person made working a full summer was a little over $3,000. On the other hand, the most a person made working during a summer was $300,000. We admit this is a pretty wide spectrum. For a more realistic idea go to How Much Can I Make?
What does it take to be successful at this?
- 100% focus and dedication to reaching your goal.
- Hard work. Not just putting in the 9 and 10 hour days, but 100% focus on each and every door, every day, 9 to 10 hours a day all summer long.
- Continual Learning. It is a process of continually asking yourself, “What more can I do”. “What works and what doesnt work.” You need to be able to adapt to the changing needs and circumstances of the customers.
- Emotional Stability. You have emotional ups and downs with this job. You need to remain positive and not get discouraged, even if you haven’t made a sale that day.
- Communicate with Confidence. Our top sales reps don’t sound at all like sales people. They come across as professionals who have a right to be on your doorstep informing people about the service that is available to them.
One Bonus Recommendation
Mental Preparation. If you are mentally prepared for the challenge at hand, you will be able to maintain focus, work hard, and stay emotionally stable throughout the entire summer.
How do I get paid?
Throughout the summer you are paid $40 on every serviced account you sell. You are paid twice a month. We cut you a commission check on the 10th and 25th of each month for accounts serviced between the 1st and 15th, and 16th and the end of the month respectively. On September 30th you will receive a commission check equal to 80% of all your sales commissions. We hold out 20% of your commission check until February 10th. This hold back is a reserve held to cover any accounts that may cancel their service. As in all sales, customers change their mind and some cancel their service. We tell our sales reps to expect a 10% cancellation rate between September 1st and February 10th on their accounts.
What if I don’t have any sales experience?
No problem. Eclipse has the best training in the industry. Eclipse knows exactly what it takes to be successful. We can provide all the training you need to succeed. We have been doing this for 15 years. If you are willing to put the effort in to learning and applying what you have learned you will be successful. If you are not, no amount of training and experience will help you.
What if selling is “not for me”
Many people ask this question.
Sales may not be for you if the idea of taking a job where there is no minimum guarantee and 100% commission scares you to death. It may not be for you if the idea of talking to strangers every day and asking them to buy pest control and have them write you a check 10 minutes after talking to them scares you — then selling is not for you.
If you are this person — we have another GREAT opportunity for you. You can be a service technician for us. This job pays a GUARANTEED SALARY of $1,800 a month and you also earn free rent. (see SERVICE TECHNICIANS)
Do you have to have a car to do this job?
You are responsible to provide your own transportation to and from your area, and to and from your sales area every day during the summer. We very strongly recommend bringing your own car with you during the summer. Plan on putting on a lot of miles on your car this summer. If you do not have a car you need to find a way out to the area. If you do not have a car we will pair you up with a person who does. Be prepared to pay between $6.00 and $8.00 every day of the summer to those who drive you to and from your area to help cover the gas expenses.
